Most chest-pack fishermen are used to making sacrifices to wade deep and keep things simple. They either have a cheap neck-strap that digs in and makes a long day miserable or a boxy pack that sticks out so far they canβt safely see their way down a steep bank. We eliminated both of these problems in the Overlook 500ZS. Load-bearing shoulder straps attached to a full back-panel provide all-day support and comfort. A uniquely tapered main compartment allows for outstanding visibility for rock-hopping and unhindered casting while still holding four large fly boxes Includes two interchangeable backs – Mesh and small pack with net holder.
- Detachable backpack for extra storage and a hydration pack
- 420D and Balistic Nylon
- 4-Point harness attachment for all-day comfort
- Mesh back pocket with room for light rain jacket/lunch
- Two external stretch-mesh tippet/accessory pockets

Great product. Love the zero sweep and the way it contours to my body. I have the fishpond chestpack too and really like it and have used it for well over a year. But have to say Iβm a converted chestpacker to this Umpqua. Back net holder performs much better and the extra back storage really helps hold my extra Korker soles and rain jacket with a lot of room to spare. Larger main storage on the front of the pack is better than the FP. I still like FPβs magnetic closure for easy, quick access and holding bugs, but the Umpqua has an overall better fit. Also the Umpqua has much better and more convenient connections points for tools. Both are great products but the Umpqua for me edges past the FP.

If the operators on Seal Team 6/DEVGRU were evaluating a fly fishing chest pack, they no doubt would choose this pack. Kudos to Umpqua for obviously doing your research & listening to clients & engineers . . . This makes the fly fishing vest obsolete. The included add on pack allows you to plan a long day far from the car or strap on the mesh back for short hikes . . . So many features I haven’t figured out all of them yet. Home Run Umpqua . . .

I have used vest style packs for 35 years… I decided to try this and I’m not disappointed! I researched other packs and this has everything you could want… Others reviews found this difficult to walk around boulders because the front of the pack sticks out a little… If you are big in the belly then this is correct. You would have to move this a little to the left or right to see what’s in front of you.. Great space, great value and very comfortable packs… But it … you will not be disappointed.

Bought this setup to replace my previous vest-pack. When I fish, I tend to be out on the river most of the day. I need space for all of my gear as well as water, rain jacket, lunch, etc. I’m pleased to say this pack fulfils these requirements and then some. It’s a solid piece of kit, feels like it should hold up for a while. There’s plenty of room in the chest pack for 3-4 large fly boxes and all the fixins, tippet, leaders, flotant, etc. The tippet holder at the bottom seems a little wonky though. You can’t really see it while wearing the pack. The removable back pack has a nice hanging point and hose slot for a water bladder and can fit a few more items besides. The one thing I can’t seem to figure out is the net slot on the back pack. I have a “traditional” short handled net, and although it sits in the slot fine I just can’t seem to grab it easily when I need it. I feel like a long handled guide-style net might be better suited for this pack. This could be a me problem though, with some adjustments and practice I might be able to figure it out.Overall great product, I hope this is the last pack I buy for a while.

This is a great deep water wading pack it rides high enough to keep everything dry and is extremely comfortable. Plenty of room to carry anything and everything youβll need on the water.

Nice vest, all features work well and it’s comfortable. If your hardcore and fly fish in the rain… The zippers are big and water go’s right though them. No drain in the bottom so you’ll have standing water in there too.

Able to fit all my gear and then some. Very comfortable and out of the way while fishing. Easy access to all compartments. Easily able to mount a GoPro on the front with a backstrap mount. Not a huge fan of the built in tippet holder at the bottom, hard to use and see your tippet when itβs underneathβ¦ I managed to use some paracord and make my own tippet mount on the top, other than that.. love it!
