OK so – would I use this gear if the world was falling apart? No.BUT – I do think it’s great value for what’s in the box and here’s how we used it.Category A – Stuff I will add to our camping kit- Metal Spork w/blade and bottle opener – Super solid and really sturdy. Actually very excited to have this.- Flash light. Nice small and compact little tactical flashlight. I would note that the first one we got was broken but returned and replaced and got a nice one.- Whistle – Great little whistle for bears and to keep in bag if we are lost- Paracord – Added to our kit. Nice to have for knot tying and etc.- Ferro-rod and Striker – self explanatory- Carabiners – Pretty solid and locking. Will likely give these to kid b/c we already have so many; but would add to daypacks if we didn’tCategory B. Give to our 4 year old — fun outdoorsy toys for her birthday- Compass – Really cool and fun compass for her to play with outdoors- Paracord Bracelet – She loves these things and puts it on stuffed animals as a collar. If I had bigger wrists I would actually wear it … but I don’t.- Screwdrivers – She loves playing around with them.- Water bottle clip – this might actually be great hiking kit, but my water bottles don’t fit it. Kid loves buckles and etc. so a great thing for her.- The BOX – super cool to giver her all this stuff in the box to keep it all. She loves that too.C. Other- 3.5″ blade. The locking mechanism is a little sketchy so even if I sharpened it to my liking, I wouldn’t count on it. BUT – it has a glass punch and seat belt cutter, so just throwing it in the glove box in case the car rolls into a river.- Solar Blankets — I never quite know what to do with these, but will add to our bug out bag- Tactical Pen – sitting on my desk. I like it to be honest.- Multi-use card – I never know what to do with these too. Will likely hang in the garage as a beer opener

The pocket knife open assist works beautifully, slick and smooth. Very sharp. Pen writes very smooth. I don’t have a window to break so I can’t tell you how that works. The whistle is wonderful, scared my cat half to death! Compass is working. Didn’t try the Flintlock. Bottle clip holds 33.8 oz very tightly. Even with swinging and abuse it wouldn’t fall off. Gold medal compass is beautiful and lightweight. Working well. Tried to bend and break the screwdriver keychain, it held sturdy. Did not try to use the saw but it does seem very sturdy and strong as well. Flintrock and scraper seems strong and surely even when trying to break it. Didn’t start a fire but think it would be able to. Flashlight is nothing spectacular but is well enough for an emergency. Credit card is sturdy but it won’t cut paper. Didn’t have the need to try all things with the credit card. The seven in one whistling knife is interesting. Seems like it will work well, however the whistle is nothing to be desired. Simple key chain whistle is very loud and sturdy. Carabiners are strong and screw is very tight as well. Blow pipe seems sturdy and don’t know why I can’t use it as a straw. Rope is rope and thank God I didn’t need to try the emergency blanket. The case itself could be slightly bigger but it holds everything it comes with and is very strong and sturdy. No room for extras however, like Band-Aid, bug repellent, etc. All in all, I would buy it again as a gift.

Overall this seems like a nice kit with a good variety of items. You would probably want to upgrade to higher quality items if you are using them on a regular basis, but this is a great compact collection to keep in your car, RV, or even just to have at home. Pairing it up with a first aid kit would give you a nice assortment in an emergencyKnifeThe knife is sharp and seems sturdy enough. The open assist on it is really nice and makes it easy to open with one hand. Don’t have a spare car window to test the glass breaker on.PenIs metal, heavy and has a replaceable cartridge vs disposable, which is nice. Again, not sure on the glass breaker, but seems like it would work.4 in 1 BraceletA very similar one on Amazon shows 12′ of cord, so I’m assuming this is the same. The compass points in the right directions, and the fire starter throws sparks pretty well.Bottle hanging buckle clipGriped firmly around a 20oz plastic bottle, and seems to hold tight, with the clips allowing quick release and reattachment.CompassWorks fine. Didn’t glow in the dark right out of the package and had to set it in the sun for a bit for it to glow, so I wouldn’t expect it to glow if it’s being stored in the case. Other that, it’s solid enough and will point you in the right direction.Keychain screwdriverThey work. You can insert the end of one driver into the keychain hole of the other one to get extra torque although they will probably strip out pretty easily with too much hard use. Overall though they work fine for some quick adjusting.Wire sawWas able to cut through a 1×2 in about 30 seconds, so any branches that size shouldn’t be an issue. A little technique is required. You have to pull in a more side to side motion, as a strong “U” shape tends to bind up about halfway through the cut.FirestarterIt throws sparks well, and seems like it will work fine.FlashlightPlenty bright. Not on par with a torch that takes 3-4 batteries, but works great for it’s size. Nice that the beam is fully adjustable. It would be great if a battery was included in the case, as you’ll need to toss one in there in order to have a flashlight when you need it. Other than that, it’s a great emergency light source.Credit card knifeI’ve never had to actually use one of these, but it seems like it could be useful. Could definitely come in handy for a variety of situations where you just need something that will work in a pinch to turn a screw or bolt, or cut or pry something. Also comes with some extra string wrapped around it. The knife strip wasn’t very sharp right off, but I sharpened it and now it is :)Emergency blanket51x82″ or 4×7′. So big enough to wrap an average person. I’m not going to test it by sleeping outside with it, but I’m going to assume it’s better than nothing. At least it would probably keep the dew off of you overnight.WhistleIt’s loud.CarabineersAs printed on them, not for climbing. But it is pretty nice that they do have a screw lock mechanism on them, and carabiners are always a great addition for hanging and securing items.Climbing ropeAgain, definitely not for climbing. It’s paracord, and I’m not sure what the weight rating is, but there is 16′ of feet of it, and having rope always comes in handy.BlowpipeExpands out to 19.5″ long. Usefully as an extended straw or to blow air when starting a fire.7 in 1 whistle knifeThe blade is razor sharp. The spork side could definitely come in handy for some light digging or scraping as well. Has about 2′ of light string wrapped around it, and more rope/string is always nice to have. The whistle is very high pitched and loud as well. A nice low profile multi tool.CaseIt seems fairly sturdy. 8x5x3″, and 1lb 12oz once I repacked it. You could also stuff a few more small items in here if you wanted as well.

I haven’t truly needed anything in this set yet, but… the knife is sharp, the Whistle is loud, and all of the gadgets are pretty cool and convenient. I didn’t take out the wire saw yet to try it, but from other reviews, I’m assuming it will work fine on small branches I’m going to keep this in my car and then definitely have it on me for camping/road trips. It is worth it for the price, especially to have in a pinchThe only thing is the Flashlight doesn’t come with a battery so make sure you put one in the case. and you have to position things juuuust right to get it all back in the case. All in all, I’m happy with this purchase
