We haven’t used this yet, but from what I’m seeing, the quality of construction is incredibly high. Zippers, straps, everything is sewn doubly strong. I can’t wait to start backpacking with my son who, at 10-years-old, fits this very well. More after he’s used it a few times.

I’ve been slowly introducing my kids to outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and general outdoor fun. Since my kids are still quite young, ages 6 and 4, I typically carry our stuff in my hiking pack. But as they get older, this is obviously bound to change. So, we were glad to test out Osprey’s Ace 38 Kid’s Backpack! I have experience with other Osprey products including a cycling-oriented and water pack.โบ Test Hike with 6-year-old:My 6-year-old used this pack on a 3-mile test hike on a nice day at a local park. This park offers some great elevation changes while keeping most of the trail paved and not to difficult for kids. Our test hike was used to test the backpack and get my son acclimated to carrying a bit of weight. He did great, carrying about 20lbs total, including the weight of the pack, water, snacks, and a few camping components we added to bring the weight up a bit.Adjusting the pack for my son’s frame was incredibly easy and done in just a few minutes. My son did great on our short hike and had no complaints. I kept checking in to make sure his back wasn’t hurting but we had no issues!โบ Features: >> Pack empty weight: 2lbs 6oz (approximately, according to our scale) >> Capacity: 38L >> Materials: 210 ripstop nylonThis pack features a lot of the same things that my full-sized adult pack has – hip-belt pocket, a rain cover, room for a water bladder, mesh back (for breathability), sleep pad straps – the works! We’re definitely looking forward to getting more use out of the Ace 38 and have a few fun hiking and camping trips lined up for the Spring and Summer months! I’ll update this review as time goes on but for now, we’re definitely happy with the pack!

It fits our very small 7 year old but gives him lots of room to grow. Lots of compartments. Our son was super excited to carry his own gear!

This pack is awesome! Same quality as all other osprey products! Zero complaints. Picked this up for my oversized (tall) 8 year old and adjustability should make it for years!

Out here in Montana, backpacking is a way of life for our grandchildren and there family. Our grandson is 9 years old and he was thrilled to receive his first backpack. He is very particular about name brands, so the brand Osprey was a big plus to him ! Perfect size. Perfect fit for a nine year old. Includes a rain cover. Next Summer itโs backpacking time to camp and fish !

Perfect fit for our 9yo on the smallest setting. He carried 15lbs on his first 3 day trip. Pack has 3 height settings and 38L is perfect for the next few years. Great adjustments & pulls. Of note is that it does not have a detachable brain or break out day pack feature. Solid first backpack for sure.

So #1 of are 3 pack shoot out. This bag has the best of all the adult pack construction, but its missing 2 thingsFrist this bag was best by me and both of my daughters, we all like the lay out. fit and comfort they said it felt great to have on with weight. It has a metal wire frame and air gap back panelThe Deuter was are second best with the Gregory 3rdOnly this this bag is missing is a hip belt pocket and I liked the wider belt that the Deuter had, girls didn’t made the smaller one.And it really should have a sleeping bag divider (preferably removable)The bag is a great size for kids width and height fit a 7&10 year old great and have lots of grow room. And this bag should last easily threw 4 or 5 kids with how well made it is.Fit. My 7y was a torso of 10″ and 10y at 11.5Easily fit both the 10″ was the smallest setting and the 11 was on 2nd setting. With 8lb and 12lb in the bag.
