I had one of these (an older standard camo model) back when I was in military school. Who knows what happened to it – but I bought an Osprey pack which I used for the last 10 years or so to replace it. The Osprey pack is starting to wear a bit and honestly I liked the MULE better and so I went with the all-black version this time.Super happy with it though the straps are a bit stiff out of the gate. As it’s colder now I’m not wearing it as much (as I’m not hiking as much) but they were pretty rough on my shoulders the first couple days. I know it’ll break in – but that’s just why it’s 4/5 rather than 5/5 stars.Excellent day pack for what it is.

I removed the bladder and use the pack to carry 0.5 liter water bottles, a sierra cup for my dog to drink from, a camera, a first aid kit, and other small items when I hike. For biking, I put in a spare water bottle, camera, a pair of light shoes and trousers to wear over my bib shorts so I can go into a cafe. I use the molle system to carry my bike lock.

With a 3 Liter reservoir and enough room to pack a small meal (specifically an MRE) and some basic survival items, this pack is the absolute perfect size for medium range hikes, particularly in locations like a national park.

I previously had a M.UL.E. hydration backpackβ¦maybe the original given mine did not have a version #. I was investigating options to replace itwhen I found this milspec version. Very happy with that decision and ok with the higher price given the much higher build quality.
